What better way to seen these majestic wonders than by scenic train trips? The mountain trains are equipped with first class carriages that have awesome wrap around windows to give you the best, breath-taking views imaginable! Scenic train trips are not marketed as fervently as skiing the alps, but make no mistake, the adventure is every bit as exciting! Even if you only want to get from point A to B, mountain trains are the way to go. The unique panorama train cars offer large windows that stretch halfway across the ceiling. The tracks for the mountain trains change from standard to narrow gauge and then narrow again,requiring train changes in certain areas. Each stretch offers you the choice of official Golden Pass tourist train with the glorious panoramic cars, the last portion even offers vintage rail cars, or the standard trains. The standard trains run more frequently but don't have the panoramic cars. After cresting Brünig Pass, the train sneaks down into Aare river valley where you will see sheer cliffs and majestic waterfalls. The channel is straight as an arrow as it slices through the expansive valley. You will pass by the town of Meiringen (a legend says that the wounderfull and delicious “Meringue” where invented by the village pastelery) with the nearby Reichenbach Falls, the location chosen by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle as the place of death for Sherlock Holmes. Then the train follows the river toward beautiful Lake Brienz. If you are in the mood to slip off the train for a spell, you can take a bus from the town of Brienz to visit the
remarkable open air museum of Ballenberg, experience the past.
