There are dozens of ski resorts dotting the Swiss border, where the snow pack is bright and white and the conditions are almost always excellent. To ski in Switzerland is to ski in heaven, they say.St. Moritz is widely known as the premier Swiss ski resort. However, you'll need a very big budget to go there: it's a very expensive ski resort that is a hangout for the rich and famous.

Located in eastern Switzerland it is uniquely Austrian with some buildings remaining from medieval times. Ski Corviglia, Corvatsch or Diavolezza. Whatever your skill level you will enjoy your time in St. Moritz for the atmosphere alone if nothing else. It also has the most reliable snowfall in the tiny nation.

If the starting point of your Swiss holiday is Geneva and you’ve planed a Ski vacation, some verywell-known ski resorts within easy reach by bus or car are Verbier, Les Diablerets, Crans-Montana and Leysin. Some of these places are relatively quiet resorts, perfect for a family skiing trip.

If you prefer something a little more intimate and a little less Hollywood, consider a trip to Klosters, not far from Davos. It has easy to access zones in Gotschna-Parsenn and Madrisa and a range of ski trails for skiers of all levels.

Davos itself offers much the same variety of skiing as Klosters, only rather than the quiet, intimate skiing experience, you also get discos, ski bars, and more hotels and restaurants than you can shake a ski pole at. It is much larger than Klosters but with about the same ski access as its little neighbor.

If you prefer to do your skiing in Switzerland in a more isolated region, with less hustle and bustle, then perhaps you should consider a trip to Arosa. This is one of the nation's most out-of-the-way ski resorts. It has a decided hipper, younger crowd, likely because it has only recently made a name for itself as a skiing destination.

It is a much more reasonable vacation stay, making it popular with families who have intermediate skills, yet also boasts some of the most dramatic slopes for only the most experienced skiers.

If you want to escape the family fun and head for a place where the skiers meet the party-goers, then head to Zermatt, with its view of the Matterhorn and hedonistic lifestyle. Where else can you ski all day and party all night, swigging beer and singing songs until the sun rises? You also get access to some of the best skiing in Switzerland including Rothorn, Stockhorn, Riffelberg, Testa Grigia and Trockner Steg.

If you are looking for something a little more affordable, a little less raucous, yet with the same level of extraordinary skiing, head for Grindewald. Plenty of restaurants, bars, discos and plenty of reasonable places to stay, make this the easiest win-win scenario for most ski excursions in Switzerland.
